The industrial sector is one of the biggest consumers of energy in Tunisia. It ranks second after transport, both in terms of total energy consumption (30% of the Tunisian total) and in terms of petroleum products (20% of total Tunisian consumption). Industrial energy efficiency measures implemented since the 1990s, and improvements to industrial processes, due in particular to new technologies, combined with the greatly increased mobility of people and goods, have resulted in the transport sector (mainly road transport) overtaking industry to become the largest consumer of energy in Tunisia in recent years.
Even more, than with transport, the industrial sector still has significant potential for further energy savings. Such energy savings could reach reductions of 32% by 2030, or 7% more than for transport.
To achieve such reductions, ANME’s involvement in the industrial sector is focused, on the one hand, on supporting companies with their energy audits and on the other, on assisting new companies – or those undergoing significant expansion – with their initial energy research.
ANME supports industrial companies considering, as well as actually setting up, CHP (Combined Heat and Power) projects. The organization also assists companies with the ISO50001 EMS (Energy Management System) certification process.
Finally, ANME ensures the availability of integrated financial solutions for industrial energy management projects, through the activation of dedicated lines of credit.
