Mr. Nafaâ Baccari, Director General of the National Agency for Energy Conservation, participated today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in the opening session of the “First Dialogue on Multi-Programme Energy Projects”, held in Tunis with the participation of representatives from European and Mediterranean institutions, as well as experts, researchers, and decision-makers from across the Mediterranean region.
In his opening remarks, the Director General stressed that Tunisia has, for several years, adopted an energy transition pathway based on the diversification of energy sources, demand-side energy management, and the promotion of technological innovation. He noted that energy efficiency and renewable energy programmes have become key pillars in supporting the national economy, particularly in the industrial, building, and transport sectors.
He further explained that the TEEP programme is part of this national dynamic through the structuring of investments, the mobilization of innovative financing mechanisms, and the acceleration of large-scale energy efficiency projects, thereby contributing to achieving tangible and sustainable economic and environmental impacts.
The Director General also emphasized that the current challenge is no longer limited to designing programmes or launching pilot projects, but rather lies in accelerating the pace of the energy transition and ensuring a real, sustainable, and inclusive impact for regions and citizens alike.
Mr. Nafaâ Baccari further stated that Tunisia considers ecological and energy transition as a genuine opportunity to foster economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen regional stability. He called for greater integration of Southern countries into European cooperation programmes and easier access to financing mechanisms and future partnerships, in order to contribute to building a more stable, prosperous, and united Mediterranean region.
At the conclusion of his speech, he stressed that issues related to energy transition, climate change, energy security, and technological innovation are now deeply interconnected and cannot be addressed separately. He highlighted that the current phase requires collective mobilization and close cooperation between institutions, universities, research centers, the private sector, and decision-makers.
This Mediterranean dialogue aims to strengthen coordination among various European and Mediterranean cooperation programmes and to link the results of field projects with future public policies.
