As part of strengthening Tunisia’s national commitment to the energy transition and supporting investment in renewable energy, the National Agency for Energy Conservation organized, on Thursday, 6 August 2026, in Tunis, the official launch workshop of the project “Solar Photovoltaic Energy for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises – CHEMS”, financed by the African Development Bank.
The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas, the African Development Bank, the Banking and Finance Council (CBF), the Tunisian Guarantee Company, and various public institutions involved in the project. Representatives of participating financial institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, consulting firms, companies specialized in solar energy, as well as technical and institutional partners, also took part in the event.
Mr. Nafaâ Baccari, Director General of the National Agency for Energy Conservation, opened the workshop with an address in which he highlighted that the CHEMS project aims to establish a mechanism to support the financing of solar photovoltaic electricity generation projects for self-consumption by small and medium-sized enterprises.
The mechanism is intended to promote investment in renewable energy, improve energy efficiency, and enhance the competitiveness of Tunisia’s national economic fabric.
The workshop also provided an opportunity to present the project’s objectives, components and implementation phases, with a view to ensuring the effective implementation of its various activities. It also served to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the different stakeholders and strengthen coordination, monitoring and cooperation mechanisms among all parties involved, thereby contributing to a successful launch of the project and the achievement of its expected objectives.
